Kirkland Police to Host Free Gun Safety Class

The Kirkland Police Department is hosting a free Gun Safety Class on April 1, 2025, designed to educate residents about safe firearm practices. Scheduled from 5 to 7 p. m. in the Totem Lake Room at the Kirkland Justice Center, the class is open to residents aged 21 and older, with space limited to 20 participants. This educational initiative aims to instill knowledge about safe firearm handling, secure storage methods, and accident prevention strategies, all crucial for community safety.

Councilmember Jon Pascal remarked on the class's value, stating that understanding gun safety is beneficial for everyone, even those without firearms. Each participant will receive a complimentary gun safe, further promoting secure firearm storage. The class will utilize inert training aids, ensuring a safe learning environment without personal firearms. This program is funded by Police Prop 1, which was approved by voters in 2018, reflecting the city's ongoing commitment to community safety.
