Kirkland Fire Department Deploys Six Firefighters to Southern California
The Kirkland Fire Department mobilized six firefighters and a fire engine to Southern California on January 9, 2025, to assist with wildland firefighting efforts in the Los Angeles area. This deployment is part of a long-standing commitment, with this being the fourth time Kirkland’s wildland fire team has been sent to California since its establishment in 2018. Councilmember Amy Falcone expressed pride in the firefighters' readiness to serve beyond city limits, emphasizing the importance of community support during such crises. The team, which has also responded to emergencies in Oregon, Arizona, and Hawaii, is currently composed of 42 certified members equipped to tackle wildfire challenges. Once deployed, the firefighters will engage in demanding 24-hour shifts, working alongside other regional partners to combat the wildfires.
This collaborative effort underscores the significance of teamwork in emergency response situations. Fire Chief Joe Sanford highlighted the vital role that the families and coworkers of firefighters play in supporting their service during these challenging missions. This deployment not only addresses immediate firefighting needs but also reinforces Kirkland's commitment to community safety and regional cooperation.
