Community Costume Swap Event: a Creative and Fun Way to be Sustainable

Kirkland, WALocal News

The Community Costume Swap Event, scheduled for September 28, 2024, at Kirkland City Hall, invites residents to participate in an eco-friendly Halloween celebration. The event, organized by the City’s solid waste team, promotes sustainability and creativity while allowing individuals and families to exchange gently used costumes. Councilmember John Tymczyszyn expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating it exemplifies how small, creative efforts can positively impact the environment and strengthen community bonds. From September 23 to September 27, participants can drop off their gently used costumes and accessories at designated locations, ensuring that everyone can find a new outfit without financial strain. The event will feature a DIY costume station for attendees to customize their new costumes and a themed photo booth to capture the fun.

Importantly, the event is free and open to the public, allowing anyone to participate without needing to donate a costume. This initiative not only encourages reuse but also helps reduce waste, keeping costumes out of landfills. For more details, residents can visit the Kirkland website or contact event organizer Gena Jain.
