People & Pets Recommended to Stay Out of the Water at Houghton Beach

Kirkland, WALocal News

Public Health – Seattle & King County has recommended that individuals and pets refrain from entering the water at Houghton Beach Park beginning September 17, 2024, due to elevated bacteria levels. This advisory will be in place for at least one week, and signs will be strategically placed to alert park visitors. While swimming is prohibited, the rest of Houghton Beach Park remains accessible for outdoor activities. Recent water quality tests conducted by the King County Water and Land Resources Division indicated that bacteria levels exceeded the safe thresholds. Additional testing is scheduled for the following week, where King County crews will collect further samples to assess the water quality.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed by visiting King County’s Lake Swimming Beach Data webpage. The advisory is a precautionary measure aimed at ensuring public health and safety. Those interested in receiving notifications about swim beach closures can join the King County Lake Beach Alert mailing list.
