Annual Kirkland Community Police Academy Now Accepting Applications

Kirkland, WALocal News

The Kirkland Police Department (KPD) is currently accepting applications for its annual Community Police Academy, a program designed to give local residents an in-depth understanding of police operations and community safety. Starting on September 18, 2024, the program spans eight weeks, with classes held every Wednesday from 6 to 9 p. m. Participants will engage in a variety of topics taught by KPD officers and staff, including De-Escalation, Investigations, and the K-9 unit. Councilmember Neal Black highlighted the initiative as an excellent way for the community to develop relationships with law enforcement.

The academy will accommodate up to 20 participants, and applicants must be at least 21 years old, live or work in Kirkland, and have no prior felony convictions. There is no fee to participate, but due to limited space, attendees must commit to the full program. Interested individuals should submit their applications online by 12 p. m. on September 4, 2024, after which a background check will be conducted.
