Houghton Beach Reopens for Water Activities

Kirkland, WALocal News

Houghton Beach Park in Kirkland, Washington, has officially reopened for swimming, wading, and other water activities as of September 4, 2024. This decision comes after a closure that began on August 27 due to elevated bacteria levels in the water. Public Health – Seattle & King County conducted thorough testing to ensure the water is now safe for recreational use. The King County Water and Land Resources Division will be conducting weekly water quality tests throughout the summer to maintain safety standards for beachgoers. It is important to note that the lifeguard season has ended, and no lifeguards will be present at any of Kirkland’s swimming beaches.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about any future swim beach closures and reopening by joining the King County Lake Beach Alert mailing list. The reopening of Houghton Beach Park is a significant relief for local families and community members eager to enjoy water activities.
