Issaquah Meals Program Celebrates Over 35 Years of Service

Issaquah, WALocal News

The Issaquah Meals program, operated by Catholic Community Services, has been a vital community initiative in Issaquah for over 35 years, serving nightly meals to individuals in need every Monday through Friday at the Community Hall. Launched in May 1989, it began with just two meals per week, responding to requests from local churches and city officials to aid those facing food insecurity. The program creates a safe and inclusive environment, where guests can dine in or take meals to-go, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, which necessitated enhanced safety protocols such as hand sanitization, mask-wearing, and social distancing to ensure the health of guests and volunteers. The program thrives on community engagement, relying on volunteers from local congregations and organizations, and offers various ways for the public to contribute through donations and volunteering opportunities. Ongoing community support is highlighted through initiatives such as the fall fundraiser, emphasizing the program's commitment to food security.

With a dedicated site leader present each evening, guests have access to additional resources and support, addressing immediate nutritional needs while fostering community solidarity and resilience.
