The certification evaluates cities based on 43 criteria, and Issaquah's successful initiatives include enhanced public safety measures and improved human services interventions. The city's effective communication strategies, which promote transparency and engagement with residents, also played a crucial role in earning this recognition.

Additionally, Issaquah's evidence-based approach to grant-making and contracting has optimized the allocation of city funds. James Anderson from Bloomberg Philanthropies highlighted the innovative use of data and technology in the city’s governance. This award positions Issaquah as a model for other municipalities aiming to elevate their data capabilities.
