Gig Harbor Police Chief Kelly Busey, who has served with the department for over three decades, will retire on June 23. Starting his career as an entry-level officer in 1991, Busey became chief in 2014 and has since made significant improvements to the department. Before his retirement, he prioritized hiring a second lieutenant and achieving state accreditation, highlighting his commitment to operational efficiency. Busey's approach to policing focused on community engagement, advocating for education and cooperation over enforcement.
