Club sponsored by local Kiwanis allows everyone to get in on the AKtion
The AKtion Club, established by the Kiwanis Club of Gig Harbor, offers developmentally disabled adults a chance to engage in community service and build connections. Tina Shoemaker, the club's advisor, was inspired by an earlier AKtion Club presentation, leading her to launch the initiative in Gig Harbor. Parents like Cindy Myer are relieved to find a supportive environment for their children, who often struggle with socialization after transitioning from school programs. The club not only fosters a sense of belonging but also actively participates in local events, including assembling gift packets for veterans and assisting KidVantage with donations for families in need. Recently, AKtion Club members filled 1,000 plastic eggs for a spring egg hunt, highlighting their enthusiasm for community involvement.
The club’s leadership emphasizes the importance of collaboration among members, who support each other in their efforts. Shoemaker is dedicated to expanding membership so that more individuals can benefit from the club's offerings. The AKtion Club stands as a testament to the power of community service and the importance of inclusion for all.
