Deputies, firefighters find no evidence of explosive device after a boom on Fox Island - Gig Harbor Now

On March 11, 2025, a loud boom near the Fox Island boat launch prompted multiple 911 calls, leading to an investigation by firefighters and Pierce County Sheriff’s deputies. Witnesses described the sound as equivalent to 10 to 15 M-80 fireworks going off at once, with one caller claiming to see flames on the beach. Upon arrival, Gig Harbor Fire and Medic One found no evidence of an explosion or fire, as reported by GHFMO Division Chief Tom Wescott. The deputies conducted a thorough search of the area but only discovered a melted Busch Light beer can, with no signs of fireworks or explosives. Witnesses also noted a vehicle, thought to be a Ford Mustang, speeding away shortly after the noise.

Deputy Carly Cappetto confirmed that the investigation did not yield any physical evidence of an explosive device. This incident highlights the community's vigilance and the quick response of local emergency services. Authorities continue to encourage residents to report any suspicious activities to ensure public safety.
