Three Peninsula wrestlers win individual titles, while Seahawks fall just short of team championship

The Peninsula Seahawks girls wrestling team came close to clinching back-to-back state championships, ultimately finishing second in the 3A classification at Mat Classic XXXVI. With 210 points, they trailed Kelso by only 7. 5 points, reflecting a competitive tournament. Three standout athletes, Mira Sonnen, Bailey Parker, and Lindsey Shipp, each secured individual state titles, marking significant personal achievements in their wrestling careers. Shipp’s thrilling victory included a last-second pin against a heavily favored opponent, showcasing her tactical prowess with a “dresser dump” move.

Meanwhile, Parker overcame flu symptoms to pin her final opponent, solidifying her status as a top competitor. Sonnen dominated her matches, allowing minimal points against her, which highlights her technical skill and athletic ability. The success of these athletes exemplifies the strength of the Peninsula wrestling program and raises anticipation for next season. As they look ahead, the team aims to build on this year’s success and continue their legacy of excellence in high school wrestling.
