Two westbound lanes of Narrows Bridge to close this weekend

Gig Harbor, WALocal News

This weekend, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge will undergo significant repairs, resulting in the closure of two westbound lanes from 8 a. m. on Saturday, December 14, to 9 p. m. on Sunday, December 15.

The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is addressing an expansion joint issue, distinct from a previous closure that caused major traffic disruptions in May. In addition to the lane closures, the Jackson Avenue on-ramp to westbound 16 in Tacoma will also be shut down. To help manage the expected congestion, WSDOT will allow all travelers to use the carpool lane during the repair work. Crews will repair the expansion joint and pour new concrete, which will necessitate additional lane closures as the concrete cures. Drivers may notice these closures even when work is not visibly occurring, so they should plan their travel routes accordingly.

The repairs are crucial for maintaining the structural integrity of the bridge and ensuring safe passage for holiday shoppers. Commuters are encouraged to allow extra travel time to navigate potential delays.
