South King County Council Moves Forward with Affordable Housing Funding
During a recent council meeting, the South King County Council reviewed critical funding recommendations aimed at addressing the affordable housing crisis affecting the region. The South King Housing and Homeless Partners (SKIPP) proposed a total of $4. 1 million for four housing projects to assist low-income families and individuals. Council members raised concerns about the distribution of funds, particularly the lack of projects in Federal Way. Claire Goodwin, Executive Manager of SKIPP, highlighted the importance of collaboration among the 11 cities involved in the consortium.
The council is keen on ensuring a diverse geographic representation in funded projects. Habitat for Humanity's Burien project has already begun construction, with other projects set to follow. Additionally, the council is expected to approve funding allocations at their next meeting on April 1, 2025, demonstrating their commitment to enhancing affordable housing options. Rising costs and inflation were also noted as factors impacting previously funded projects.
