Federal Way Council Discusses Community Support for Crisis Care Center
The Federal Way City Council recently held a meeting where community support for the establishment of a Crisis Care Center was prominently voiced. Archie Levine from Sound Alliance highlighted the dire need for such facilities to address the growing mental health crisis in the area. Levine pointed out that the organization has been actively advocating for crisis care initiatives since a King County Council levy was proposed in 2023. However, concerns from residents about public safety and the management of facilities were also raised. Mike Dickinson, a long-time Federal Way resident, questioned the effectiveness of current systems in transitioning individuals out of temporary housing.
Additionally, fears were expressed regarding the potential increase in crime linked to drug use and homelessness, with some residents worried about the impact on property values. Council members recognized the complexity of the issue and called for ongoing evaluations of the city’s approach to these pressing matters. Although no vote was taken during the session, the council is expected to consider feedback and proposals in their upcoming meetings.
