Crisis center operator seeks opportunity to open in Federal Way
Connections Health Solutions is stepping in to operate a crisis center for behavioral and mental health in Federal Way, which has been dormant since the previous operator withdrew. This initiative will be fully funded by an April 2023 voter-approved levy aimed at establishing five crisis care centers across King County. During a recent city council meeting, staff from Connections outlined plans for a 24/7 urgent care clinic, an observation unit, and a stabilization unit—all designed to cater to individuals in crisis. While council members showed support, they raised concerns regarding safety and the implications for the community, especially following issues at a local day center. Connections has committed to robust security protocols, including trained staff and a 24/7 security presence.
The council is seeking public input before making a decision on a letter of support, which is critical for Connections to submit their proposal by the March 21 deadline. Mayor Jim Ferrell emphasized the importance of transparency and community involvement in the decision-making process. This crisis center represents a significant resource for South King County, aiming to provide essential mental health services to individuals from all walks of life.
