WSP Releases Details on the High Speed-Chase That Ended in the Puget Sound

A high-speed chase culminated in tragedy when a Mini Cooper drove off the Edmonds ferry dock, resulting in two fatalities. The Washington State Patrol initiated the pursuit after observing the vehicle speeding on I-5. Deputies resumed the chase after the Mini Cooper exceeded 100 mph, ultimately leading to the crash into 40 feet of water. Two passengers, Melanie Ross and Portsha Sapp, died at the scene, while the driver and two others were transported to a medical center. Multiple agencies, including local police and fire rescue, responded to the incident, which temporarily halted ferry operations.

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities examining potential drug and alcohol involvement. Body camera footage of the rescue efforts has been made public, offering a glimpse into the chaotic scene. This incident highlights the dangers associated with high-speed pursuits and the potential consequences for both law enforcement and civilians.
