Mike Schmieder has been appointed as the new director of Everett Transit by Mayor Cassie Franklin, taking over from Tom Hingson, who retired after a distinguished 25-year career. Schmieder, who began his journey with Everett Transit in 2008 as a fixed route operator, brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to community service. The article highlights significant milestones achieved by Everett Transit in 2024, including surpassing a million miles on electric buses, which have been integral to their sustainable transit efforts. The introduction of inductive charging technology marks a significant advancement, allowing buses to charge wirelessly while in service. Everett Transit is on track to convert 67% of its fleet to zero-emissions by 2025, aligning with its environmental goals.

Additionally, the agency will retire its last five Orion V buses, which have served since 2001 and 2002. The new mission statement, “Connecting People to Life,” reflects the agency's focus on community engagement and service. As Everett prepares for population and job growth, these initiatives position Everett Transit as a leader in sustainable urban transportation.
