Replacement of Edgewater Bridge to begin Oct. 30

Everett, WALocal News

The City of Everett is set to begin the construction of a new Edgewater Creek Bridge on October 30, 2024, leading to the closure of Mukilteo Boulevard for approximately 12 months. This vital infrastructure project addresses the safety concerns surrounding the existing 78-year-old bridge, which has reached the end of its useful life and operates under weight restrictions. Although currently deemed safe for daily use, the bridge is vulnerable to failure in the event of an earthquake. The total budget for the bridge replacement is $34 million, with $28 million allocated from federal grant funding. City officials, including Dan Enrico, principal engineer of Everett Public Works, stress the importance of planning alternate routes to minimize traffic disruptions.

They have also placed portable messaging signs at each end of the closure to keep drivers informed. The project not only aims to improve safety but is also part of Everett's ongoing earthquake hazard mitigation efforts. For more information, residents can visit the city’s website to access detour maps and updates on the project.
