Weyerhaeuser Building Move Complete
The historic Weyerhaeuser Building has been successfully relocated to Boxcar Park, concluding a complex move that began around midnight and lasted 11 hours. The move is part of the Port of Everett's $330 million Waterfront Place Central development, which is projected to create 2,075 family-wage jobs and generate $8. 6 million in annual sales taxes. Port Commissioner Troy McClelland highlighted the project's dedication to integrating local history with modern development. Nickel Bros, the company responsible for the move, has relocated nearly 300 historic buildings across the U.
S. and Canada. The Weyerhaeuser Building, which weighs approximately 350 tons, has been moved three times since its construction in 1923. The ornate Gothic-style structure was designed by architect Carl Gould to showcase local wood species. Future uses of the building include hosting public performances and serving as a marine clubhouse, with the aim of opening in 2020.
Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson noted the importance of preserving local history in new developments.
