Whittier Elementary in Everett has earned the prestigious National Blue Ribbon School recognition, awarded for outstanding academic performance and efforts to close achievement gaps. Principal Tony Wentworth first learned of the award in February 2025, although the program was cut by the U. S. Department of Education in September 2025. The nomination, made by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, placed Whittier among the top-performing schools in Washington.

Superintendent Dr. Ian Saltzman celebrated the staff's dedication and emphasized the importance of their work in achieving high student outcomes. State Superintendent Chris Reykdal also commended the school for its significant impact on student achievement. Even with the program's termination, Whittier will always be recognized as a Blue Ribbon School, reflecting its commitment to educational excellence.
