On July 26th, a collision on I-5 near SR 2 resulted in a fire that endangered a driver trapped in an electric vehicle. Two Everett police officers acted heroically, rescuing the occupant as flames spread rapidly. Mayor Cassie Franklin praised their actions, declaring them heroes deserving of recognition. Chief John DeRousse noted their selflessness and quick thinking amidst the chaos. Both officers were treated for smoke inhalation and are recovering.

The body-worn camera footage, which may be disturbing, shows the urgency of the rescue as the vehicle's occupant yelled for help.
