City of Ellensburg Announces Poet Laureate

The City of Ellensburg appointed Sarita Dasgupta as Poet Laureate for the 2026–2028 term to promote local literary arts. The selection committee unanimously chose her from four qualified finalists after reviewing their work. Dasgupta serves as a library assistant and has published multiple chapbooks, language textbooks, and children’s literature. Her extensive experience includes teaching, literary editing, and community engagement through poetry. She co-founded the Midweek Musings literary series in 2023 and actively participates in local poetry events.

Alex Eyre, Chair of the Ellensburg Arts Commission, highlighted the expectation of Dasgupta's unique voice elevating the arts. The Poet Laureate program supports the Commission's goal of fostering artistic growth and economic development in Ellensburg. Community members are encouraged to engage with the arts through the Commission's programming and partnerships.
