City to Hold Community Conversation Workshops to Discuss DEI
The City of Ellensburg will hold two Community Conversation Workshops on August 20 and September 6, 2025, to discuss an amendment to Chapter 9 of its Comprehensive Plan, focusing on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Both workshops will take place at the Hal Holmes Community Center, providing an organized platform for community members to express their viewpoints. Trained facilitators will guide discussions to ensure a respectful environment, with participants grouped by viewpoint to clarify their positions. The information gathered will shape a follow-up Common Ground Workshop on October 4, 2025, which aims to foster dialogue between differing perspectives. This workshop will follow the Braver Angels framework, encouraging participants to identify shared values and concerns.
The city emphasizes the importance of community engagement in shaping policies that affect residents. The city also highlights its commitment to accessibility, inviting requests for language assistance or accommodations. Residents are encouraged to contact the City Manager’s Office for any inquiries related to the workshops.
