Hells Angels member sentenced for attack on three Black men in Ocean Beach

El Cajon, CALocal News

A San Diego jury sentenced Hells Angels member Troy Andrew Scholder to 21 years to life for stabbing a young Black man in a racially charged attack. The incident occurred on June 6, 2023, when Scholder and 16 others chased three Black men after one allegedly spoke to a gang member's girlfriend. Scholder was found guilty of attempted murder, assault, and a hate crime. Prosecutors revealed that during the assault, racial slurs were shouted, and Scholder stabbed one victim in the chest, severely injuring him. Scholder's prior criminal history included a robbery conviction tied to gang activity, which doubled his sentence.

Defense attorney Marc Kohnen contested the hate crime designation, arguing Scholder had been crime-free for years prior. However, Deputy District Attorney Miriam Hemming highlighted Scholder's associations with white supremacists and his history of racist behavior. The attack underscores ongoing issues of gang violence and racial discrimination within the community.
