Federal agents target El Cajon business suspected of employing undocumented immigrants
On Thursday, federal law enforcement executed a search warrant at BJS & T Enterprises, operating as San Diego Powder & Protective Coatings (SDPC), in El Cajon, California, as part of a crackdown on businesses employing undocumented immigrants. The operation involved dozens of officers and resulted in the arrest of four individuals, including the company’s general manager, John Washburn. Washburn faces serious felony charges, including conspiracy to harbor aliens, which could lead to a decade in prison. The operation is part of the recently launched Operation Take Back America, which aims to address illegal immigration and dismantle criminal organizations. Although about 20 workers were detained, no charges were filed against them related to violent crime or cartel involvement.
Investigators highlighted that SDPC is required to verify employment eligibility under its federal contracts but failed to do so adequately. The significant federal presence at the site underscores the seriousness of workplace enforcement violations. This incident reflects broader national efforts to ensure compliance with immigration laws and protect community safety.
