San Diego Zoo wants your help to name 2 sloth bear cubs
The San Diego Zoo has launched an exciting contest inviting the community to help name its two new sloth bear cubs, born in December. This initiative allows locals to engage with wildlife conservation while learning about the species, which is native to South Asia. The Wildlife Care team has curated a selection of names that reflect the cubs' heritage. For the female cub, voters can choose from Nimala, meaning "Creative one," Nimali, meaning "Independent one," and Shehani, which translates to "Magic, shining, regal. " The male cub's name options include Kavi, meaning "Wise, a poet," Rishi, which signifies "Wisdom and profound knowledge," and Kumar, meaning "Prince.
" The cubs and their mother, Shala, can be seen by park guests at their habitat along Upper Center Street. Voting is available online until noon on April 1, with the winning names set to be revealed the following day. This fun and educational activity not only engages the community but also raises awareness about sloth bears and the importance of their conservation.
