Car flies off I-8 after crash, lands in backyard of El Cajon home

El Cajon, CALocal News

A dramatic incident unfolded on July 8, 2024, when a car involved in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 8 launched off the freeway and landed upside down in the backyard of a home in El Cajon. The California Highway Patrol reported that the collision occurred on the eastbound side of I-8, close to the on-ramp at Mollison Avenue, when one car rear-ended another. This impact caused the rear-ended vehicle to lose control, sending it down a slope and into a residential area. Three individuals were inside the overturned car and were promptly taken to a nearby hospital; their injuries were described as moderate-to-severe but not life-threatening. Thankfully, no injuries were reported for the occupants of the other vehicle involved in the crash.

Authorities issued a SigAlert for the area, and the on-ramp from Mollison Avenue to eastbound I-8 remained closed as a result of the incident. Speeding is believed to be a factor contributing to the crash, highlighting ongoing concerns about traffic safety on the freeway. This unfolding story will be updated as more information becomes available.
