Man arrested in Kearny Mesa after suspected arson attack in El Cajon
Jose Orozco, a 53-year-old man, was arrested in Kearny Mesa on suspicion of arson after a fire was reported in the room he was renting in El Cajon. The incident unfolded following a dispute between Orozco and his landlord, leading police to respond to the residence. Initially, officers found no evidence of a crime, but they returned later that day after receiving reports of a structure fire. Upon arrival, they discovered that Orozco's room had been set on fire, and although he was not present, two other roommates were at the house. Orozco was found later that night at the NBC 7 station, where he was acting erratically and discussing the fire incident.
Investigators then searched his vehicle and uncovered a plastic bottle filled with gasoline, which suggested a premeditated act of arson. Orozco's arrest adds to his extensive criminal record, which includes serious charges such as assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding safety and criminal behavior in the El Cajon area.
