Budgets, transportation, housing and more at Edmonds City Council meeting June 10
During a lengthy meeting, the Edmonds City Council addressed critical issues such as the middle housing code, which is scheduled for adoption on June 24. This code seeks to align with state legislation mandating increased housing diversity in single-family residential areas. Many residents criticized proposed regulations, particularly concerning lot coverage, which they argue could lead to unlivable conditions. The council also approved an extension of the interim ordinance protecting landmark trees until April 2026. Furthermore, the council adopted a new Transportation Improvement Plan, showcasing significant safety enhancements along Highway 99.
A design review code was also finalized, while budget discussions revealed uncertainties regarding non-levy revenue options. These deliberations reflect ongoing efforts to balance development needs with community concerns about livability and environmental preservation. The council plans to refine the housing code further following public input.
