Voters get to know candidates during speed dating event

Edmonds, WALocal News

Candidates for Edmonds City Council, School Board, and Port Commission participated in a Candidate Speed Dating event at the Edmonds Waterfront Center, fostering direct interaction with voters. Sponsored by the Edmonds Civic Roundtable, the event attracted around 70 attendees who rotated through tables to meet the candidates. Each candidate had two minutes for introductions, followed by eight minutes for audience questions, enhancing the informal nature of the event. Attendees valued the chance to ask about candidates' backgrounds, experiences, and visions for the community. The primary election is scheduled for August 5, providing an opportunity for voters to narrow the field for the general election on November 4.

This initiative reflects a growing trend of engaging voters in local governance. Community members praised the event as a brilliant idea and a great opportunity to connect with candidates. Such gatherings are crucial for fostering informed voting and civic participation in local elections.
