Scene in Edmonds Coho release day from the fish pen

Edmonds, WALocal News

Volunteers released nearly 30,000 Coho salmon from a net pen at the Edmonds Fishing Pier on Sunday. The Puget Sound Anglers installed the pen in February, allowing the juvenile fish to grow and imprint on the local area. The fish, provided by the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, will now migrate north into the Pacific Ocean. In approximately 18 months, many of these salmon are expected to return to the region, contributing to local fisheries. This release not only supports the salmon population but also engages the community in conservation efforts.

The Puget Sound region has a rich history of salmon fishing, making this event significant for local anglers and residents. The initiative underscores the importance of restoring fish populations in the area. Such community-driven projects can play a vital role in sustainable fisheries management.
