In Days Gone By Ole Christian Sorensen (O.C.) early first-generation Edmonds immigrant
O. C. Sorensen, born in Norway in 1862, immigrated to the U. S. as a young man and settled in Edmonds in 1889.
After initially working in Minnesota's logging industry, he opened a blacksmith shop that grew to support local farmers and merchants. Sorensen faced personal tragedies, losing two daughters shortly after birth, yet he remained focused on his business and family. In 1902, he became a city council member, reflecting his commitment to civic engagement. He entered a partnership with W. C.
Rynearson to manage his shop, which allowed him to pursue additional business opportunities, including a shingle mill near Echo Lake. By 1903, the mill was operational, contributing to the local economy. Sorensen's achievements illustrate the significant role of immigrants in shaping Edmonds' early development. His legacy includes both commercial success and civic leadership.
