Tsunami Siren Drill Thursday, Oct. 21st

Edmonds, WALocal News

Edmonds is set to hold a tsunami siren drill on October 21st, enhancing community preparedness for potential tsunami threats. The exercise will take place between 11 AM and 1 PM, lasting about 15 minutes, during which participants will hear the actual warning sound. Following the siren, a bilingual audio message will guide residents on how to respond by moving to higher ground. This drill is part of the annual Great Washington ShakeOut, which promotes earthquake readiness across the state and beyond. The recently installed All Hazard Alert Broadcast (AHAB) siren system, which was introduced in June 2021, is tested on the first Monday of each month at noon.

Monthly tests include the Westminster Chimes, followed by safety instructions in English and Spanish. Engaging in such drills is vital for ensuring that residents are familiar with emergency protocols and can respond effectively in real situations. By participating in these drills, the community strengthens its resilience against natural disasters.
