Homage Senior Services raising money to feed seniors this Thanksgiving
Homage Senior Services is seeking to raise $10,000 to provide 660 Thanksgiving dinners for seniors and adults with disabilities in Snohomish County. The nonprofit has delivered meals through its Thanksgiving Meals on Wheels program for over 20 years, serving more than 25,000 individuals annually. Each year, dedicated staff and over 100 volunteers work on Thanksgiving morning to prepare and deliver meals to homebound individuals who cannot cook for themselves. This year's effort aims to support nearly 800 meals, including packaged leftovers, ensuring that isolated community members receive both nourishment and companionship. Leah Hammon, the Director of Nutrition, underscores the significance of the meals, stating they remind seniors that their community cares.
To qualify, recipients must be 60 or older or have a disability, expect to spend Thanksgiving alone, and be unable to prepare a meal. The meals are prepared at the Carl Gipson Center, owned by Volunteers of America Western Washington. The organization has partnered with Beresford Booth Lawyers for several years to prepare cold food the day before the event.
