Annual earthquake and tsunami drill set for Oct. 16 in Edmonds

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Great Washington ShakeOut earthquake drill is scheduled for October 16 at 10:16 a. m. in Edmonds, where residents will practice essential safety measures. The tsunami siren will sound from West Dayton Street and Railroad Avenue, with a follow-up message confirming it is a test. Emergency management officials emphasize the need to remember the actions: Drop, cover, and hold on during an earthquake.

Signs throughout the waterfront area provide guidance on tsunami hazard zones and evacuation routes to higher ground. Pedestrian evacuation paths include Admiral Way, Railroad Avenue, and Sunset Avenue, leading to safe areas. Inundation models indicate that regions east of Third Avenue are outside the tsunami zone. Residents can also listen to the siren online before the drill for familiarization. For more information on the ShakeOut and earthquake safety, visit the Great Washington ShakeOut website.
