House of Wisdom founder receives award from The Courage Project
Ahmad Hilal Abid, founder of The House of Wisdom, received recognition from The Courage Project for his dedication to community service. At just 24 years old, he transformed his immigrant experience into a nonprofit that empowers over 200 students annually through education, mentorship, and community programs. Abid stated that true courage involves building solutions to tackle educational and economic inequities faced by underserved and immigrant communities. The House of Wisdom, which started in his father's garage with $300, has created over 110 opportunities for college students through volunteering and internships. The Courage Project, launched in May 2025, awards individuals and organizations demonstrating courage and compassion, distributing grants between $10,000 and $50,000.
Abid, a graduate of Edmonds College, is furthering his education at the University of Washington. His work emphasizes the importance of fostering belonging and leadership skills for future generations. The Courage Project accepts public nominations year-round, encouraging community involvement in recognizing brave individuals.
