Port commissioners get updates on five-year strategic plan and new emergency plan and also porpoises
Port of Edmonds Commissioners convened on October 14, 2025, to review their 2024-2030 strategic plan and discuss emergency management initiatives. The strategic plan includes goals related to community partnerships, sustainable operations, and financial management, aiming to strengthen relations with local government entities. Executive Director Brandon Baker emphasized the importance of collaboration with the City of Edmonds to address a revenue gap impacting the port's operations. Additionally, the port is finalizing its Snohomish County Hazard Mitigation Plan, which outlines risks from natural and human-caused hazards and strategies for effective emergency response. This marks the first time the port will be integrated into the county's five-year planning cycle.
Community feedback will be gathered soon, with a formal adoption expected by the Commission in November. Baker noted that the port's financial goals directly affect marina tenants and customers, indicating the plan’s local significance. He also mentioned ongoing discussions about the environmental impact of harbor porpoises, showcasing the port's commitment to ecological awareness.
