Trump administration pulls funding for Northwest green hydrogen project

Edmonds, WALocal News

The Trump administration's decision to cancel funding for the Pacific Northwest Hydrogen Hub has drawn sharp criticism from Democratic leaders in Oregon and Washington. The hub was set to receive up to $1 billion in federal funding to promote the production of zero-emissions hydrogen fuel. Officials from the administration argued that the projects did not meet national energy needs or provide a positive return on investment. Senator Patty Murray condemned the cancellations as politically motivated and detrimental to job growth and energy costs. The decision affects 223 clean energy projects across 16 states, with most located in areas that supported Democratic candidates.

Governor Bob Ferguson announced that his office would work with the state Attorney General to contest the cancellations. Ironically, many hydrogen production facilities were planned in areas that voted for Trump. The administration's actions signal a shift in energy policy priorities, favoring projects that align with their agenda over previously approved initiatives.
