Exclusive Why Auon'tai Anderson isn't running for school board this fall

Denver, COLocal News

Auon'tai Anderson will not pursue a seat on the Denver school board this November, aiming to avoid becoming a distraction from critical student issues. He had recently hinted at a comeback, emphasizing the urgency for justice and safety for children. During his tenure from 2019 to 2023, Anderson faced significant challenges, including being censured for inappropriate online communication with a student. Despite these issues, he remains a polarizing figure, viewed by some as a champion for reform while others criticize him as combative. Anderson is endorsing Scott Esserman and Michelle Quattlebaum, both incumbents, in their re-election efforts.

He did not run for re-election in 2023 but has maintained a presence in local politics. Currently, he works as a restorative practice coordinator at Manual Middle School. Looking ahead, he stated that running for the school board in 2027 is "100% on the table.
