Denver Cooling Centers Activated June 20-21

Denver, COLocal News

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the Denver Metro Area on June 20-21, prompting the activation of cooling centers by local authorities. Denver Parks and Recreation will open recreation centers as cooling stations, with access to drinking water and restrooms. Additionally, Denver Public Library locations will provide a respite from the heat for residents. High temperatures can lead to serious health issues, especially for vulnerable populations such as older adults and those with chronic medical conditions. The Denver Department of Public Health & Environment recommends that residents stay hydrated and limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours.

Symptoms of heat-related illness include nausea, dizziness, and elevated body temperature. Outreach teams will assist people experiencing homelessness by providing information on available shelters and cooling options. Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors and never leave children unattended in hot vehicles.
