The Denver neighborhoods with the most weed dispensaries

Denver, COLocal News

Denver restricts cannabis dispensaries to prevent market oversaturation, with Overland leading at 13 shops. The Department of Excise and Licenses reported that Northeast Park Hill, Baker, Five Points, Montbello, and Valverde will not see new businesses this year. This regulation aims to protect neighborhood culture and minimize children's exposure to marijuana. Currently, Denver has 265 storefront licenses for recreational and medical cannabis, reflecting a 21% decrease from 337 in 2020. Financial strains have led to business closures, marking one of the industry's toughest periods since legalization in 2014.

Agency spokesperson Eric Escudero emphasized that the annual data release helps maintain community integrity. The prohibition on transferring licenses in these high-density areas further stabilizes the local market. Despite the challenges, the top neighborhoods for dispensaries remain unchanged from last year, although some have lost shops.
