Effort to transform Colorado politics by 2030 takes shape

Denver, COLocal News

The Courageous Colorado initiative, launched through a statewide listening tour, aims to reform state politics and elections by 2030. This effort follows the failure of Proposition 131, which sought to implement all-candidate primaries and ranked choice voting. Supported by civic organizations, the tour included 20 town halls where participants discussed and ranked their support for various reform ideas. Key proposals emerged, such as campaign finance reform, better civic education, and open political primaries. Lead organizer Landon Mascareñaz urged attendees to remain engaged despite expressing skepticism about changing the political status quo.

A similar initiative in 2016 led to significant policy changes, indicating potential for impact. Organizers plan a retreat to analyze data and develop a comprehensive policy agenda for release in September. This ongoing effort highlights the community's desire for a more representative and less partisan political system in Colorado.
