Denver, COLocal News

Denver plans to allow open alcohol consumption in designated areas of the 16th Street Mall this summer, as stated by Mayor Mike Johnston. The initiative aims to create new locations for patrons to enjoy drinks outdoors, enhancing the mall's vibrancy. Eligible businesses, including Henry’s Tavern and Paramount Theatre, may sell alcohol, although participation interest is still uncertain. The Upper Downtown Neighborhood Association expressed strong support for the proposal, highlighting its potential to benefit local restaurants and enhance outdoor dining experiences. Drinking will be permitted from 10 a.

m. to 9 p. m. in specified areas, with patrons restricted from carrying beverages between zones. The city will accept written comments on the proposal until Friday, potentially leading to revisions before final approval.
