‘I’d rather go through COVID again’: Businesses struggle with Colfax BRT construction

Denver, COLocal News

Bourbon Grill and neighboring businesses on Colfax Avenue are experiencing declining sales due to the $300 million Colfax Bus Rapid Transit construction project that began in October. Restaurant owner Mac Vo reported a record low of just $165 in sales two days prior, attributing the downturn to both cold weather and the construction's impact on foot traffic. Other local establishments, such as Capitol Hill Books, echo these sentiments, with owner Holly Brooks stating that the disruptions have forced her to let staff go. The construction, which is set to continue through 2027, has raised concerns among business owners about their long-term viability. They hope that once completed, the project will enhance foot traffic and improve overall business conditions.

However, the immediate effects are causing significant challenges, including reduced parking availability and increased difficulty for customers to access their shops.
