A kind-of-accidental wildlife refuge in Central Park is getting a major upgrade

Denver, COLocal News

Bluff Lake Nature Center in Denver has initiated an $8. 5 million renovation project to enhance its facilities and educational offerings. The project will introduce new indoor classrooms and outdoor learning spaces, addressing the current lack of infrastructure at the site. The nonprofit organization managing the center has raised over $7 million from private donors and the City of Denver to support these improvements. During the groundbreaking ceremony, City Council member Shontel Lewis emphasized the community's involvement and excitement about the project.

The design, created by Shape Architecture and Superbloom Landscape Architecture, will incorporate native plant gardens and accessible pathways. Mark McMullen Bushman, the center's school programs manager, noted the significant impact these upgrades will have on operational efficiency. The renovations aim to solidify Bluff Lake's role as a vital educational resource and wildlife refuge in the area.
