Dinosaurs once roamed Denver's City Park
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science recently uncovered a dinosaur vertebra fossil 763 feet underground in City Park, Denver. Identified as belonging to a herbivorous dinosaur, possibly a Thescelosaurus or Edmontosaurus, the fossil was discovered during a geothermal drilling test aimed at tapping energy resources. Bob Raynolds, an Earth sciences research associate, remarked on the unique opportunity to explore the geologic layers beneath the city. The fossil is now featured in the museum's "Discovering Teen Rex" exhibition, attracting significant public interest. This area, known for its rich paleontological history, continues to yield important scientific findings.
The museum's ongoing research emphasizes local geological and biological history's relevance. Such discoveries enhance understanding of the Late Cretaceous era when dinosaurs thrived in this region. The fossil not only represents a significant find but also reinforces the museum's role in advancing scientific knowledge.
