New Red Line Stations At Bryn Mawr, Berwyn, Argyle And Lawrence Opening Soon

Chicago, ILLocal News

The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) will reopen the Bryn Mawr, Berwyn, Argyle, and Lawrence stations on July 20 after more than four years of renovations as part of the $2. 1 billion Red and Purple Modernization Project. This initiative seeks to modernize the Red Line’s infrastructure, which has served Chicago for over a century. The newly constructed stations are fully ADA-accessible, featuring escalators, elevators, wider platforms, and enhanced lighting, which will significantly improve the commuting experience. Mayor Brandon Johnson praised the project for making transit more accessible for residents and working families, emphasizing its role in the city’s economic vibrancy.

The CTA also plans to create over a mile of public space beneath the tracks, with playgrounds and dog parks anticipated to be completed by 2027. Local artists contributed to the station designs to reflect neighborhood culture, enhancing community engagement. The reopening of these stations is notable as it represents the first time four stations have opened simultaneously since the introduction of the CTA Orange Line in 1993. With improved infrastructure and amenities, the project aims to provide a more reliable and enjoyable transit experience for Chicagoans.
