Automatic Precision sees a bright future, despite potential tariffs threat on manufacturing business

Chicago, ILLocal News

Automatic Precision, based in Harwood Heights, has successfully operated since 1976 without layoffs, producing Swiss precision-tuned components for industries like automotive, aerospace, and medical. The family-owned business, led by Chris and John Bulat, employs 49 individuals across three shifts and utilizes 200 machines. The recent introduction of tariffs on imported materials presents a risk to their costs, but Bulat remains hopeful that these measures will be short-lived. He believes the current climate may also lead to increased demand for American-made products, which could create new job opportunities. Bulat emphasizes the need for skilled labor, suggesting that mechanically inclined students should consider trade schools to address the impending shortage of skilled workers.

He reflects on the company's legacy of multi-generational employment and notes that recruiting has become challenging due to a shift in focus toward higher education. Despite uncertainties, Bulat is confident that the manufacturing sector will adapt and overcome these hurdles. He advocates for resilience and innovation in navigating economic challenges.
