Chicago Department of Public Health Partnering with Department of Family and Support Services Senior Centers to Offer COVID-19 and Flu Vaccines

Chicago, ILLocal News

The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) is actively encouraging individuals aged 65 and older to stay current with their COVID-19 vaccinations, specifically recommending a second dose of the newly released 2024-2025 vaccine. This guidance comes as seniors who received their first dose around September are now eligible for their second dose in March. The CDPH is partnering with the Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) to conduct senior vaccination clinics throughout March and April, offering both COVID-19 and flu vaccines. These clinics are designed to be accessible, with no out-of-pocket costs for participants, regardless of their insurance status. Seniors are advised to bring their insurance cards if available, but appointments are not required, making it easier for them to access these critical vaccinations.

The initiative highlights the city's commitment to protecting its most vulnerable residents amidst the ongoing pandemic. By facilitating these vaccinations, Chicago aims to enhance community health and safety. Furthermore, the effort reflects a broader strategy to combat the dual threats of COVID-19 and seasonal flu, ensuring that seniors receive the necessary protection.
